So last weekend I was rummaging through my closet and despite facing a wardrobe full of clothes, I was faced with a woman’s typical first world problem… I had absolutely nothing to wear. I was supposed to look pretty and girly and it was impossible because I was gross and had nothing to wear. And so the closet hunt began.
Just yesterday, the room was spotless, having gotten it cleaned. Now, after attempting to pick out what to wear, all my clothes were on the floor, on and under the bed and hanging on every possible surface. And then at the bottom of the pile, I saw a dress I had completely forgotten I owned. A 4 year old dress that looked brand new as I had only worn it twice. Inspired, I decided to put together an outfit made of “oldies”.
So yeah, everything I have on is at least 2 years old. I love the print of the dress but as it’s a tube top, and… Dubai, so I had to wear something over it. The vest I picked out because I think it toned down the loudness of the dress. Then I picked out a colour in the dress and I thought the shoes matched the yellow orangey at the bottom. And the bag because I had nothing else that I thought matched. Haha.
It actually is tricky to match or accessorise patterns and I still do get it wrong but I usually just go with what my gut tells me to. There really isn’t an exact formula on putting clothes together stylishly as everyone has different clothing styles and personalities. What might look good on me might not be so good on another. But I think as long as you feel confident in what you’re wearing, you’ll look good 🙂
Dress: the now defunct Urban Behavior which used to be in DFC
Cotton Vest: Stradivarius
Shoes: Nine West
Accessories: Esprit watch, an old necklace I forgot where I picked up from, diamond studs from Lhiali
So if you have a stuffed wardrobe and feel like you have nothing to wear or if you just need to find a way to shuffle through potential combinations, start by picking out a piece and work from there and with what you’ve got. And remember, confidence is the sexiest thing you can wear 🙂
What about you? What do you do when you have “nothing to wear”?
